COSHH, REACH, GHS — chemical management

UK COSHH assessments, EU REACH dossiers and SVHC tracking, and GHS/CLP hazard classification & labelling from the QEHS chemicals library.

Overview

Three overlapping regimes govern chemical risk in QEHS tenants: the UK Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), EU Registration/Evaluation/Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH), and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for hazard classification and labelling (CLP in the EU, HazCom 2012 in the US).

The Chemicals library

  • Central SDS repository with versioning and expiry reminders.
  • GHS hazard classification fields (H-statements, P-statements, pictograms).
  • REACH registration numbers, SVHC flags, authorisation annexes.
  • Exposure-limit data (WEL, OEL, TWA, STEL) linked to COSHH assessments.
  • Linkage to locations and processes for "where is this chemical used" queries.

COSHH assessments

The COSHH assessment module drives users through hazard identification, exposure estimation (using the CRO/Stoffenmanager approach if desired), control selection (elimination → substitution → engineering → admin → PPE), monitoring, and review. Assessments are reviewed every 5 years or on change.

GHS labelling

The Labels sub-module generates workplace container labels including pictograms, signal word, H/P statements, product identifier, and supplier details. Labels are printable on Zebra and Brother label printers from the QEHS mobile app.
