Pressure vessel inspection

Periodic internal and external inspection of boilers, pressure vessels, and storage tanks — mandated by ASME code and jurisdictional regulations.

Pressure vessel integrity is governed by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). Inspection requirements vary by jurisdiction but typically include: internal inspection every 3-5 years, external inspection annually, thickness testing (ultrasonic) at corrosion-prone locations, pressure relief valve testing, and non-destructive examination (NDE) for crack detection. Inspection findings are documented, and repairs must be performed by an ASME-certified "R" stamp holder. Failure of a pressure vessel can result in catastrophic explosion; the CSB (Chemical Safety Board) has documented numerous fatalities from uninspected or improperly repaired vessels.
