ISO 14001

ISO 14001:2015 is the international standard for environmental management systems and the most widely adopted environmental standard globally. It uses the Annex SL structure shared with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001. The core is a life-cycle perspective on environmental aspects and impacts, a compliance-obligations register, and emergency preparedness for environmental releases — the spill, the fugitive emission, the unauthorised discharge.

An EMS under ISO 14001 is what turns environmental compliance from a reactive incident response into a planned program. The aspects-and-impacts register identifies what the site does that touches the environment, the compliance register lists the permits and limits that govern it, the operational controls keep the site inside those limits, and the management review closes the loop.
