Situation

Pre-QEHS, Northwind’s plants each ran their own NCR workflow. Corporate quality needed 8 calendar days just to roll up a weekly Pareto. CAPAs sat unassigned for weeks. Supplier PPM was a monthly manual export.

Approach

  • Rolled out a single NCR module across all 14 plants with plant-specific guard rails
  • Embedded 8D + 5-Why templates into the CAPA workflow
  • Connected SAP and JD Edwards ERP via webhooks for work-order + lot context
  • Supplier scorecards generated from the same data — no re-keying

Outcomes

  • NCR-to-CAPA cycle time dropped from 31 days to 9
  • Repeat findings reduced 42% in the first audit cycle
  • Supplier quality team reduced reporting time from 6 hours to 20 minutes per week

We replaced four tools with one. The Composer let us standardise NCR across plants without forcing a one-size-fits-all form — each plant kept its idiosyncrasies, we finally got our data.
